ABOUT the BARL Program

The main goal of the Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language (BARL) program is to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of the Russian language, while enhancing their immersion and interaction with Russian culture and literature. Students will be able to understand and learn about many historical events in Russia, its national and religious policies, and its contributions to world culture. The program revolves around two main dimensions: the first is language preparation. It begins with basic training in the Russian language through preparing students who have never been exposed to the language. By the end of the fourth year, participants are expected to be proficient in Russian in speaking and writing, and to reach an advanced level of all listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Through a curriculum that includes core courses offered in Russian, advanced language education, and participation in summer and winter language immersion programs, students will develop their language proficiency to a professional level, preparing them for future careers in

language teaching and translation. The second dimension is concerned with promoting a comprehensive understanding of Russian history, literature and culture. The applied part of the curriculum seamlessly integrates students into the professional field, facilitating interaction with peers, researchers, and professionals in the field. Upon completion of the program, graduates gain the necessary experience to pursue their postgraduate studies in areas such as Linguistics, Russian Language, Language Education, Russian Literature, and Translation. The program also grants an independent certificate in the Russian language, which enhances the qualifications of students affiliated with the program.
