The preparation of academic research is one of the principal outcomes of undergraduate education, alongside the acquisition of knowledge and subject-specific competencies. Its importance becomes even greater at postgraduate level, where it provides the methodological framework for the preparation of scholarly articles and master’s and doctoral theses. In view of this importance, this book examines scientific research in both its theoretical and practical dimensions. It begins by defining the concept of research, its types, and its ethics, and by outlining its methodological foundations and the principles that govern sound academic work. It also surveys the main research methods, the criteria for selecting them, and the ways in which they may be used in academic studies. In addition, the book addresses the stages of preparing, writing, documenting, and presenting research in accordance with the recognised academic standards required for the award of a degree. It also takes account of contemporary methodological developments arising from technological progress, particularly the use of artificial intelligence tools in the research process within a framework of academic and ethical responsibility.
