The papers presented at the scholarly symposium The Holy Qur’an: Studies in Method and Context addressed central issues in the understanding of the Holy Qur’an, both past and present, within an integrated methodological and interpretive approach. The symposium opened with an address affirming the universality of the Qur’anic message, the necessity of bringing revelation and reason together, and the importance of regulating interpretation in accordance with scholarly standards. The first panel examined classical and contemporary methods of exegesis, highlighting the foundations of interpretation based on transmitted reports, language, and jurisprudence, alongside modern approaches such as thematic and interpretive exegesis, while calling for disciplined methodological renewal. The second panel addressed complex issues such as abrogation, inimitability, and the Qur’an’s relationship with the other, in light of historical and human context. The third panel focused on contemporary readings that highlighted the Qur’an’s universal vision, its value system, and the shared ethical foundations of humanity. The symposium concluded that understanding the Qur’an remains an open field for rigorous scholarly interpretation, capable of responding to the transformations of the age without compromising the constants of the text.
