Qira'at Magazine - Issue 9

Issue 9 - December 2025

This issue features fourteen critical reviews of new books in Islamic studies, philosophy, social sciences, and ethics. We explore the latest publications from global and Arab thinkers and authors, offering deep and engaging readings that enrich knowledge and open new horizons for thought and dialogue.

We welcome the fall of 2025 with the ninth issue of Qira'at (Readings) in New Books. These are indeed new books across various branches of the humanities. The effort here aims to present what is truly new to attract readers and researchers from colleagues and graduate students. While it is said that knowledge exploration has become rapid and very rapid, the magazine provides quick reviews of new and engaging books that take no more than ten minutes to read on the university website or in print. Thus, it combines knowledge of the new with quick access to it.

Of course, the colleagues who wrote the reviews or readings vary in brevity or thoroughness, and in ranging between neutral presentation and selective criticism. However, all colleagues are professors who maintain a high standard, not to mention that the book under review is read two or three times before and after being assigned to a colleague.

Let us look at the new selections we have made, with the general characteristic being that the publication date is recent and that its subject contains a new idea, and it is usually not a textbook. There are several presentations in this issue to enrich knowledge of Islamic culture, which we desperately need, because studies of the Quran and Islam in Arabic have become largely repetitive and redundant. Therefore, the reader will find familiar titles but unfamiliar content.

Alongside new Islamic studies, there is new general knowledge, whether philosophical or social, economic, and ethical. The new global material in the humanities is large and abundant, almost weekly. Ethical and other educational and instructional issues undergo significant change in both academic studies and light online platforms.

Considering this comprehensive yet unobtrusive approach, we see that this issue presents new, enjoyable, useful, and educational material while being careful not to overdo the didactic aspect. This is an experience that began three years ago and has evolved considerably based on feedback from readers, reviewers, and interested parties.
